Founded in 1860, Josef Drathen Wein und Sektkellerei is one of the largest producers of value wines and premium sparkling wine in Germany.
Magellan imports two different Dornfelders from Josef Drathen. Dornfelder is a German red grape that is a crossing of two other German red varietals: Helfensteiner and Heroldrebe. Dornfelder produces a particularly dark colored red wine. Originally, Dornfelder was developed as a blending grapeto provide more color to red wines. The grape has since become very popular as a single varietal wine on its own. Next to Pinot Noir, Dornfelder is the second most planted red grape in Germany.
Dornfelder produces reds with deep bluish-purple color. On the nose a bit floral with dark berry aromas. On the palate, the texture is velvety with blackberry and dark cherry flavors. The trocken is a dry Dornfelder. 12.5% Alc. 6.2 grams RS/L.
